River City Chapters Motorcycle Awareness Program (MAP)
At the time of the creation of
this organization no other issue or issues were more important
than motorcycle safety, education and awareness. Some River
City Chapter members have been conducting motorcycle
awareness classes at both local public high schools and private
driver education sources in north Idaho since the late 1980's.
From Moscow to Clark Fork, Idaho we have worked to make these
awareness classes available to interested drivers education
instructors and their classes.
The next
scheduled River City Chapter Motorcycle Awareness Program (MAP)
class is: TBA
Aug. 10th, 6PM, at the Harding Family
Center, 411 N 15th St. in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Class will be
presented by Dewain Hendren

Motorcycle Related
Statistical Information

Each Year, Idaho's Office of
Traffic and Highway Safety publishes Idaho Traffic Collisions
data. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) also publishes data reports on Traffic Safety. Below are
links to .pdf files of their motorcycle related data.
The Motorcycle Accident Cause Factors and Identification of
Countermeasures, January, 1981 - Final Report, or more
commonly known as the "Hurt Report", is the most
comprehensive study of motorcycle crashes done in the US -- ever.
This exhaustive study included data on more than 900 motorcycle
accidents, the researchers interviewed 2,310 passing
motorcyclists, and studied 3,600 motorcycle accident police
reports. It is also worth noting that reportedly those working on
this study, including Professor Harry Hurt, were experienced
motorcyclists. The completed study report is over 400 pages but a
summery of the findings is available below.
